Cinnatopia Cinnamon Bun

First churned April 2016

“Cinnamon roll, cinnamon gaweyness with ribbons of frosting!” proclaimed Ella, the second-grader who dreamt up this runaway hit for our Student Inventor Series. It preserves each glorious part of the classic bun—fluffy roll, gooey filling, and cream cheese frosting—in cinnamon ice cream.

2012 was the first year of our Student Inventor Series, where students at an elementary school near our only shop were tasked with creating new ice cream flavors alongside our head ice cream maker, Tyler. Out of that creative exercise came flavors like Hawaiian Teriyaki Peanuts, Cherry Soda Swirl, our beloved Skittles Rainbow Sherbet, and Cinnatopia Cinnamon Bun. What’s not to love about a warm fresh-out-of-the-oven cinnamon roll slathered in ribbons of frosting? Seeing these young creative geniuses at work helped us see how we could use ice cream for good in our community. In that very first year and the seven since, we’ve donated a portion of proceeds from these ice creams right back to the schools that invented them, totaling more than $40,000. Cinnatopia Cinnamon Bun from Abernethy Elementary in Portland is the prime example of a win-win for us, where we get to create amazing ice cream while making an impact on the neighborhoods around our scoop shops.
