Straight from Grandma Malek’s kitchen, her beloved gingerbread molasses “Cry Baby” cookies are back again this year. These family favorites are lovingly churned into a gooey cookie butter, then layered into a rum-spiked royal icing ice cream. Bits of gingerbread cookie are scattered throughout so that every bite of this comforting treat is packed with the warm, spiced flavors that’ve been part of our holiday festivities for generations.

The original gingerbread cookie recipe comes straight from co-founders Kim and Tyler Malek’s grandma’s recipe box—one of the first they ever baked with her. Grandma Malek called these gingerbread cookies “Cry Baby” cookies and the royal icing “Hard Sauce,” thanks to a touch of too much rum. The whimsical name hails from the same era that brought us “Snickerdoodles” and a trove of other delightfully odd seasonal cookie names.
