Apple Cider Donuts

Apple Cider Donuts is another collaboration between Salt & Straw and our longtime partners, Sidecar Doughnuts. This time, we’re featuring their seasonal apple cider cake donut, which is made with both shredded apple and apple cider, spiced with cinnamon and sugar and topped with a crumbly streusel topping. The crisp outer shell of the fried doughnut keeps the inside moist and tender in ice cream, making it the perfect doughnut to incorporate into this flavor. Royal icing-inspired ice cream mimics the drizzle that finishes each apple cider cake donut and thick ribbons of cinnamon-infused vanilla caramel reinforce the fall festival vibes.

Sidecar Doughnuts started much in the same way Salt & Straw did: with a vision of creating a community gathering space. They, too, started small—with a renovated 1959 Helm’s Bakery Truck—before spreading to several locations throughout California and becoming one of the state’s most beloved doughnut destinations. They famously fry up small batches of cake doughnuts all day, making sure everyone who steps through their doors gets a fresh, handcrafted treat to enjoy no matter what time of day they stop by.
