Celebrating 5 Years on NE Alberta

To the amazing Salt & Straw family, Five years ago, we opened our first scoop shop in Portland’s iconic Art’s District on NE Alberta Street. This dynamic neighborhood reflects so many of our core values—from supporting a strong community to creating special places for neighbors to gather—so opening the shop here felt like coming home. The support we received when we first opened pushed us to create the quality ice cream flavors that support this vibrant neighborhood and help it shine, and our connection to our Northeast Portland customers and our neighboring organizations like Community Cycling Center and Vernon Elementary School keep us focused on our mission every day. As we celebrate our fifth anniversary, we want to take a moment to thank the people who make the magic of Salt & Straw possible every day. To our employees, thank you for making this such a great place to work. You have built an unparalleled environment of delight and respect, and it is an honor to work by your side. To the chefs and artisans we’ve collaborated with over the years, thank you for inspiring us with your non-stop creativity and willingness to push the boundaries of what ice cream can be. It’s been delicious. And to our incredible community, thank you for making us a part of your lives—sharing your celebrations in our shops, making us a place on your holiday tables, and creating a tribe of supporters we could only dream of when set out to open a little ice cream shop in Portland, Oregon.
